How to Remove Hard Drive Password on Acer Laptop
A utility is provided in some laptops to lock a hard disk with a password. But these passwords are not the same as BIOS passwords sometimes. Maybe you can remove BIOS password just by moving battery from motherboard. However, the same way is not available for removing hard disk password because of these reasons:
- Hard disk password is stored in the hard disk firmware and moves with the hard disk.
- If you add a new (unlocked) hard disk to a locked machine, it may lead to new hard disk to be locked.
- Note that hard disk lock passwords cannot be removed by reformatting the disk, formatting disk or any other software procedure (since the disk will not allow and reads or writes to the disk, it cannot be reformatted.)
So how to remove hard drive password? Take Acer laptop as an example according to two different situations.
There is one possibility that BIOS password and hard disk lock passwords are set the same by a user and we can recover the BIOS password directly from the laptop security chip (after it is removed from the system board.) However, it is possible that the BIOS password and hard disk lock passwords may be set different. In this case the BIOS password will not unlock the hard disk. You can test to confirm if your hard disk is locked by attempting to access it in another laptop.
There is one possibility that BIOS password and hard disk lock passwords are set the same by a user and we can recover the BIOS password directly from the laptop security chip (after it is removed from the system board.) However, it is possible that the BIOS password and hard disk lock passwords may be set different. In this case the BIOS password will not unlock the hard disk. You can test to confirm if your hard disk is locked by attempting to access it in another laptop.
At this time, you should only remove HDD password with some password cracker when you have forgotten HDD password. If you still remember hard disk password, or you remember bios password is the same as hard drive password, follows the below to remove it.
- Start your Acer laptop and hold on pressing F2
- Few seconds later, you will enter BIOS Setup Utility
- Press Page Up and Page Down key to choose Security option from menu
You would see there are three password settings choices, Set Supervisor Password, Set User Password, Set HDD Password and Password on Boot.
4. Choose Set HDD Password, and a dialog window pops up.
5. Enter current password, and keep ÒEnter New PasswordÓ and ÒConfirm New PasswordÓ blank at the same time.
6. Click F10 to save these changes.
7. Reboot Acer laptop again, you will find you can enter computer and access hard disk freely.

How to Reset Password on Acer Windows 7 Computer
I locked out of my Acer Windows 7 laptop! I am working on Acer computer with Windows 7. Its locked me out at the password screen. I am pretty sure I am using the right password, but keep getting a message that its the wrong password. Without the ability to get past the password, I cannot do anything. Is there anyone who can give any advice to help me retrieve my administrator password on my Windows 7 Acer and then get back into the computer?

Well, to recover my Acer Windows 7 password, I have got and tried ways below:
Method 1, With a Windows installation disc or a System Repair disc to help
Step 1. Get a Windows 7 installation disc or any bootable media that can support us access to Command Prompt. If we dont have one, go to another available Windows 7 computer and create a System Repair disc by pressing the WinLogo+R keys and run RECDISC.
Step 2. Set computers BIOS to boot from the disc. Access the Command Prompt via the Repair computer - > System Recovery Options. Type the following commands:
c:
cdwindowssystem32
copy sethc.exe sethc_orig.exe /y
copy cmd.exe sethc.exe /y
*Note: If you see a message saying "The system cannot find the path/file specified.", it means your Windows is in the D partition, not C. So instead of typing c: above, change it to d:
Step 3. Remove the disc and restart the computer. At the log in screen, press the Shift key repeatedly at least 5 times. When the Administrator Command Prompt appears type the following command:
net user "login name" *
Just keep it blank and confirm it. If you see the message "The command completed successfully", close the Command Prompt. You should now be able to log in to the account without a password.
You need to undo the changes that you have made to the SETHC file after removing or changing the Windows 7 password. Otherwise, somebody else can use the command prompt to change your password or even lock you out again. This cannot be undone after login Windows 7. So you have to boot again from the disc, access the Command Prompt and type the following:
c:
cdwindowssystem32
copy sethc_orig.exe sethc.exe /y
As the above, if the path is not found, change the c: to d:
Method 2. Get Windows Password Recovery Tool to reset Acer Windows 7 password
If password is not strong enough and we can try Ophcrack via site: http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ . Just burn it to a CD or create a bootable flash drive and boot from one of them.
If Ophcrack cant find the password, the next option is to simply remove the password. The software that comes to mind is the Windows Password Recovery Tool which can do the trick. Just 3 easy steps:
Step 1. Download Windows Password Recovery Tool, install it and run it on an accessible pc from website http://tinyurl.com/windows-passwords-recovery.
Step 2. Burn the iSO image file to a blank CD/DVD/USB Flash Driver to create a password reset disk.
Step 3.Set locked Acer Windows 7 computer start from burned disk after BIOS setting. Then restart Acer computer, recover lost Windows 7 password within clicks.

Four methods are provided here for you to bypass Windows 7 laptop forgotten password.

Method 1: Bypass Windows 7 Password via Administrator Account

Step 2: Click the user account you want to change its password, and then a sub panel "Change an Account" is opened.

Method 2: Bypass Windows 7 Forgotten Password with CMD
With Net User command, you can bypass windows 7 user password easily if you can log on windows 7 with another user who has administrator privilege. Net User command is also used in windows 8/Vista/XP and Windows server 2000/2003/2008. Now, you can reset a user password in two steps below:
Step 1: Launch Command Prompt:
Start -> In search box, type in: cmd.exe -> Right click cmd.exe on search result -> Run as administrator.
Tips: If you are login windows with administrator user, you can run cmd.exe directly without "Run as administrator".
Step 2: On Command Prompt, type in: Net user <user name> <new password>.
Tips: Replace <user name> with user name, and replace <new password> with password. When get message "Command completed successfully", it means the password has been reset successfully.
Method 3: Bypass Windows 7 Laptop Password in Safe Mode
When Windows 7 was installed, a built-in account named administrator was created at the same time. The Administrator account has a blank password until you create a new password for it. So it is easier and safer to bypass Windows 7 login password in Safe Mode when forgot Windows 7 admin password. Now we try to login Windows 7 with administrator account.
Step 1: Boot or reboot your Windows 7 pc.
Step 2: Press F8 repeatedly until the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen appears.
Step 3: Select "Safe Mode" in the coming screen, and then Press Enter.
Step 4: Log in with "Administrator" account until you see login screen. Click "Start > open the control panel > users accounts", and reset any user password. Now, you have bypassed Windows 7 administrator password.
If the administrator account is inactive or set the password, we cannot use the above methods to bypass windows 7 forgotten password. We should use Method 4.
Method 4: Bypass Acer Laptop Password through Windows Password Recovery Disk
Windows password recovery disk can be created before you forgot Windows 7 login or admin password for Acer laptop. But if you have not created one, Windows Password Genius can help you to burn it into bootable USB drive or CD/DVD ROM.
1. Download and install Windows Password Genius on your another available computer. When it is installed successfully, run it and insert bootable USB drive into it.
2. Choose USB as media type and click ÒBegin burningÓ to burn a Windows password recovery disk. If it is burned into USB successfully, a message will prompt you. And then exit USB from available computer.
Now Windows password recovery disk has been created with password recovery tool, the following operations are to set laptop boot from it and remove forgotten Windows 7 password when you are locked out of Acer laptop.
3. Take USB reset disk plugging into Acer laptop, and then boot it from USB. Press F12 when you start Acer laptop and enter Boot Option Menu. And then choose USB to boot Acer laptop.

4. Remove Forgotten Windows 7 password for Acer laptop
When you see Windows Password Genius runs, it means just need another step to finish Windows 7 password reset. That is to click ÒReset PasswordÓ. And Windows forgotten 7 password will be blank.
Reboot Acer laptop and exit USB, and you can sign into Windows 7 laptop bypassing password.
